In 2022, El Zein was commissioned by Qatar Museums to create large scale public permanent installations. Us, Her, Him at the Flag Plaza, the entrance gate of the Cultural Museum District, comprises hand-carved sculptural limestone benches spanning over 1000 feet, reflecting on the abstract notion of human connections. Her, Him is installed at the National Museum of Qatar roundabout.
“The vision behind Us, Her, Him was to capture the nuanced experience of being in a public space, where people meet, cross paths, and form connections. Each bench embodies a different mode of relating to one another, reflecting the diversity of human interactions. Some benches are fully intertwined, representing close bonds, while others are in the early stages of acquaintance. Some convey formal or introverted dynamics, while others are more open, generous, and unapologetically present. These variations aim to mirror the familiar ways we connect, celebrating the essence of human relationships in a shared environment,” said Najla El Zein.
